What Home Means To Me – “The Live-in Showroom”

001
As part of our ‘What Home Means To Me’ series, we talk to ex-pat Ellie Clifton about her escape from the London 9-5, to an authentic Algarve guesthouse. Originally trained as a milliner and jeweller, Ellie reveals a home that is decorated with unique finds from her travels, as well as handcrafted rugs from her most recent project, Makana Home.
“My aim was to create a home with a personal touch. I wanted to give guests an experience. An interior that shows care, thought and attention to detail.”
Sourced from the North of Portugal, Ellie sells handmade, Makana Home rag rugs from her Lagos Guesthouse. Using Casa Enseada as a base, her home is the perfect live-in showroom for these unique pieces, with no two rugs ever being the same.

“The guest house became the perfect showroom to display the rugs and my perfect excuse to keep purchasing new ones. With much interest from guests staying we started to sell the rugs through the house and Etsy.”
